Hi I’m new here..

Hi ya Pals!

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. If you can dream it, you can do it. All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

How We Do Disney World in Summer

Hey, y’all! Now that the holiday season is over, I am dreaming of warmer weather, sunshine and of course, my happy place. I know you must be thinking, “how can she be thinking about summer when it’s only January”, but when it comes to any good planned Disney World trip, being prepared is key. One of the questions I get asked often is how in the world (see what I did there?) do we survive going to Disney World in the summer? I am going to share with y’all some of the things we have found useful when traveling to WDW in the summer months.

I know I have shared so many photos from this summer trip and I also know we look a little hot and sweaty, but it seriously was one of my most favorite trips, ever! Just look at how happy those sweet babies are! They really didn’t complain at all about the heat. They were too excited!

Before I tell you about how we survive going in the summer, I want to tell you why I surprisingly enjoy going to WDW in the summer and one of our favorite trips was in June of last year. One of the main reasons is that it fits in our family’s schedule. My husband is a teacher and obviously, this works well for us because he doesn’t have to take off any time from work to go on vacation. Another reason I really enjoy going in the summer is the fact that we can take full advantage of water rides/attractions and the swimming pools. We have been known to go swimming at Disney World in December, but its a no brainer during the summer. This gives us something to do on our breaks from the parks. I will talk about this on a little later, but for now let’s get started on things we must have when traveling to WDW in the summer.

Got soaked on splash mountain…was dry 15 minutes later. Beauty of going to Disney World in the summer 🙂

Summer Must Haves:

Fans: This may seem kind of obvious as a must have, but we put two stroller fans on our double stroller which helps keep our kids cool in the summer heat. We also have portable fans (don’t forget the portable charger to recharge fans) that we use for ourselves that fit nicely in our park bag. They sell fans all over the park if you would like to purchase one as a souvenir, but we try to save money on this one and bring our own.

Cooling Towel: I didn’t even know these existed until last year when I was researching on how to stay cool at Disney World in the summer. These wonderful magic filled towels keep you cool in the middle of the blazing summer Florida sun. I believe I had one around my neck one morning before 9:00 am. You can also buy some in the parks that would be a great reusable souvenir.

Ponchos/stroller cover: Not only is it really hot in Florida during the summer, you can also count on it raining at least once per day. We always try to keep ponchos in our bag and the double stroller cover under our stroller for when one of those summer showers starts up. You may see the parks clear out when it starts to rain, but most of the time it doesn’t last long so we keep on with our ponchos and the kids love staying dry with their cover. Funny story, once when it was raining, we were walking behind the castle (near the carousel) and one of the royal jesters said, “look it’s a baby aquarium!” We still talk about that every time we bring out that cover!

Anti-chafing balm: This was another one of those things I discovered last year..and believe me, it truly is a must have during the summer! I would apply a little in the morning in any area that could possibly chafe and I never had any problems the whole week (and I even wore jean shorts..this stuff works, y’all!) My husband made fun of me when I was packing, but he was a believer after the first day.

WATER: I put this one in all caps for a reason. Not only am I a Disney lover, I am also a nurse and this is really the most important item in this list! Heat stroke/dehydration is super serious and scary and we don’t want to have to miss out on any magic by being ill from the heat. You can pack your own bottle to refill with water or you can stop by most counter service locations and they will give you free ice water. I feel like the taste of the water in the parks has improved (or maybe I am getting used to it, IDK), but if you are scared of the taste you can always bring in some water flavoring in your bag. We usually keep some in ours just in case or to help the kids drink water… If you don’t follow any of my other tips, please make sure you stay hydrated. Water is our friend 🙂

Okay, I think I have covered most of our summer essentials. I do feel that I should add sunscreen. I know everyone knows this, but just so it’s out there. Please wear sunscreen summer if you will be outside…no matter your location for this one. Next up, I want to talk about another tip I have for doing Disney in Summer.

Taking breaks is very much needed to have a successful/safe Disney World trip in the summer. You may be thinking, “I paid way too much money to spend half my day inside at the resort.” My husband would agree with you…he cannot stand to stay in the room on vacation. We have to go, go, go! I am not necessarily talking about missing half the day, but also it’s not a bad idea either. You find whatever works for you and your family. What we typically do is go to the park super early and stay until about lunch time and then go back to the resort to either rest or swim. We will go back out to the parks later in the evening when it’s not as hot. Now, if you are the person who absolutely cannot go back to the resort (or if you are staying off property and it’s not as easy to get back to the parks), there are ways you can still take a break. Grab a table service dining reservation for lunch and sit inside for a nice lunch/break. Another way to take a quick break is to catch those inside attractions/shows. The heat will really make you appreciate some of the under-appreciated attractions/shows like Country Bear Jamboree (this is actually my mom’s favorite show) or Muppet Vision 3D (we actually really like this one).

Waiting for Country Bear Jamboree while waiting in the cool AC seems like a great idea to me.

Well, there ya have it. I have shared some of the things I have learned to have a good summer trip to Walt Disney World. I will be honest, I was totally against going in the summer before I actually did it. I mean, it WILL be hot, but it can still be a lot of fun. We made so many wonderful memories during our summer trips. If you would like to make some magical memories with your family, I would love to help you plan your next summer vacation to Disney World.

See ya real soon,

Kelly

Tanks, shorts, and shades are a definite must for summer at WDW. My hubby was usually spotted in his Mickey ball cap, but I think he took it off fo the photo. Hats are another great way to cut out some sun on your face.

How We Save Money on our Disney World Trips

Hey, y’all! It’s been a few weeks since my last post. It’s been a busy season with all the holiday festivities, but the busy travel season is about to begin and I want to share some money saving tips with you. We all know Disney World isn’t cheap, but there are always ways to help save and savings do add up! Let’s get started.

One of the first ways we save money on our WDW trips is by driving. We live about 600 miles away from the Most Magical Place on Earth so it’s a pretty good drive, but it definitely saves us money. The obvious savings would be the cost of air faire, but we also save money by being able to pack extra snacks/food. Even though we usually get a dining plan, we will usually have pop tarts or cereal for breakfast and it is nice to be able to not have to purchase those while in the parks. We also pack lots of extra snacks for the ride and for the kids. I believe I mentioned this in one of my earlier posts, fed kids are happy kids so we ALWAYS have the snacks. We also take our double stroller. This saves us money from renting a stroller while on our trip. We have even packed a toddler mattress in our car before…driving is more flexible for us at this stage of our lives. I am not mentally prepared to take my two tinies on an airplane…yikes and honestly, it is sort of fun road tripping with my little family…I mean there is usually a lot of crying and whining, but there is also excitement, laughter and if we are lucky…naps!

That one time the toddler mattress went with us to WDW. Spring 2017
3 of the states we go through to get to our happy place! Usually about 10.5 hour drive
One of those lovely car naps I was talking about. Summer 2019.

Another way we save money on our Disney World trips is by taking advantage of discounts when offered by Disney. Even if there isn’t a promotion/discount when we book, they can be applied later if one becomes available. We have saved a lot of money over the years with free dining and room discount offers. One of my favorite discounts offered are the bounce back offers. This is a promotion for Disney guests who are currently on property who book their next vacation. We saved 25% on a room at Port Orleans French Quarter this summer with one of these offers! The discounts vary, but if you know you want to come back, why not book while you are still there and save some money?

Stocking up on Disney gift cards is another way that we save money on our WDW trips. We buy discounted gift cards at Sam’s Club and Target and usually save about 5%. It may not seem like much, but it definitely adds up! You can combine your gift cards on to one at www.disneygiftcard.com. Disney gift cards can be used to pay on your trip, merchandise on property, food, and more. I also like to get some gift cards for my kids and let them use those to buy souvenirs while we are there. It helps us make sure we spend the same amount of each of them. Disney will often have promotions where they will give you gift cards. There is a promotion now where if you turn down Mousekeeping (Disney’s version of housekeeping), they will give you a $10 for every night of your stay, minus the first night. For example, if you are staying 4 nights, they will give you a $30 gift card…that is a quick service meal or a couple of souvenirs. We have done this the last few trips and having the extra gift cards is so nice. Another perk of driving is that we can pack extra trash bags to empty our trash and things to straighten the room. You can always request extra towels, coffee, and toiletries from Mousekeeping, but they won’t come in every day and empty your trash and make the beds. For us, this is not a big deal because we are usually in our room trying to nap/rest during the time they come to clean so it works out. This tip may not work for everyone. If coming back to a made up bed and having your room picked up every day is super important to you, then just keep Mousekeeping as it is…I like saving the extra cash. I don’t mind throwing a trash bag out on my way to the parks…there are always trash cans conveniently located throughout Disney property.

The kids with some of their toys they bought with their gift cards at Disney Springs, Summer 2019.

This one may be a stretch for some people, but I also save some cash to put towards our trips with cash back apps. The main ones I use are Ibotta and Rakuten, but I am starting to use Shopkick too. Why not get paid for things you buy anyway? This isn’t a top saver, but it definitely adds up over time. If you would like to check these out, I will leave my referral link at the bottom.

We also pack little surprises/souvenirs for the kids for on the way and while we are there that helps us save money. We always carry some of those dollar tree glow sticks in our park bag that help prevent the “please can I have one, mommy?!” when the carts come out with lots of flashy light up toys before fireworks or parades. I also pack these fun little bags for when we are driving. It’s full of little prizes/activities and I give them one surprise for every hour of traveling (while they are awake). I got this idea from a good friend and tried it out this summer and it was genius! It keeps their little hands busy, gets them excited (it’s usually Disney themed) and helps the time go by a little quicker.

Another way we save money, is to take advantage of the free things at Disney…wait a minute, did I say free? We love to get our celebration buttons when we arrive at our resort (you can also get them at the parks). This is a fun way to celebrate whatever special is going on and makes for a sweet souvenir. We also get free ice water (available at any quick service locations) to refill our bottles while out in the parks. It’s important to stay hydrated, especially in the summer! Cast members will often give out stickers to the kids which is a sweet gesture and what kid doesn’t love a Mickey sticker? Ghirardelli’s Chocolate Shop in Disney Springs will sometimes offer free samples of yummy, delicious chocolate. Also, who doesn’t love chocolate?! Those little freebies can really make you feel like you are saving big.

Pins from our5th wedding Anniversary and our daughter’s first visit in 2015.

Well y’all, there ya have it. Here are my top money saving tips. One of the most important I would like to add, would be to use a travel agent! Travel agents can help you apply those discounts/promotions when they become available and book those bounce back offers! I would love to help you save money on your next Disney World trip by being your travel agent. My services are completely free to you and you save money so it’s a win-win for you! I can’t wait to help you plan your trip!

How We Do Disney World Without Kids

Hey, y’all! So glad you are here today. I feel like reading this title definitely makes me look like a terrible momma, but I am not giving in to mom guilt today (that’s a whole different subject for another day). Before we had kids and we had a trip planned to WDW, people would ask me, “why are you going there before you have kids?” or give me their opinion on how they wouldn’t go without kids. We went in April of 2014 together and it was one of our favorite vacations we have ever taken! That is the beauty of Disney World, there truly is something for everyone…young and old alike. I want to tell you about how we do our “parent trips” as my 4 year old named it this summer (PS…she definitely did not know our location of our said parent trip…)

A throwback of our first trip together BEFORE we were even parents. April 2014.

Let’s start with planning an adult only trip. I actually booked our parent trip while we were still on our last family vacation in November of 2018. I saved some money by booking a bounce back offer that Disney was offering at that time. Saving money is always a plus! I was planning to be finished with my BSN at the beginning of the year and we wanted to celebrate my accomplishment with a trip to my happy place. We also really wanted to remember why it was our happy place…as I mentioned in a previous post, that was not our easiest trip with our kids and we wanted to be able to do all the things we missed out on. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love taking my kids to Disney World, but it is a completely different experience with an adult only trip! I booked our trip for the summer of 2019 because my husband is a teacher so it just made sense for us to go when he finished school for the year. We knew it would be hot, but we also knew we wouldn’t be carrying kids or pushing a stroller so we were just going to go with it!

I was tickled to be able to write this on my celebrating pin!

The next thing was to decide where we were going to stay. We chose Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter and I am so glad we did (one of my favorite resorts on property). We wanted to stay somewhere quiet, but still close to the action. All the parks were a bus ride away and we could even catch a boat ride to Disney Springs! We also got to eat mickey shaped beignets for breakfast and that is definitely a plus in my book!

it’s the little touches that I love at Disney. Mickey shaped Mardi Gras beads on the table in our room at Port Orleans French Quarter.

Our dining reservations were made at the 180 day mark and I wanted to try new and different restaurants that we had not experienced before. We ate at O’hana for dinner, 1900 Park Fare for dinner, and Story Book Dining at Artist Point for dinner (Wilderness Lodge). Two of those three restaurants are character meals and it was totally fine that we didn’t have kids with us! We were really impressed with the character interaction at 1900 Park Fare (the stepsisters are hilarious!) and we want to make it a tradition and already have reservations for our next family trip in April.

the sisters were hilarious at 1900 Park Fare. This has become my husband’s favorite place to eat on property!
Right before Cinderella made me cry…she saw my pin saying I had gotten my BSN and told me I was the real hero and gave me a hug. Cue the ugly crying. 😭❤️

Next were fast pass selections at the 60 day mark. This was so different for me than what I am used to for family trips. I won’t lie, it felt a little weird to not have a fast pass for dumbo or it’s a small world, but it was a nice change. I won’t bore you with all our fast pass selections, but I got most of all the popular attractions (at that time) including Seven Dwarf Mine Train, Splash Mountain, Test Track, and Flight of Passage. It was nice to be able to ride together on rides with height requirements instead of one person riding and the other watching the kids and then swapping.

the first time I rode Splash on this trip was solo. Took Boo some convincing, but he ended up loving it once he rode it!
Every time I look at this photo, I laugh! So I should add that my hubby did not ride rides prior to this trip…he’s warming up to them LOL
One of us was way more excited than the other 🤪

When it was actually time to go, we drove all night. For those of you who don’t know, Disney World is about 600 miles away so it was literally an all nighter. We arrived first thing in the morning and literally went straight to a park. That would not have been super doable with little ones in tow. We also would not have driven all night with kids (some people prefer to travel like that, but it just doesn’t work for our kids). We went hard that first day and ended up crashing at like 7:00 that evening..LOL can’t even stay up late when our kids aren’t around.

The next three days seemed to go by so quick, but we really made the most of them. have you ever heard the saying, “park hop till you drop?”… Since it was the middle of summer, we did take some breaks from the heat/crowds. We didn’t always go back to the resort for our break, but we did spend one afternoon swimming in the pool at the resort. Anything in the AC was considered a break on this trip. We didn’t have to be as strict with our plans, but just enjoy the moment. We watched shows and fireworks that we sometimes don’t get to enjoy with our kids who aren’t night owls and can’t seem to sit still and wait sometimes. We rope dropped most mornings, getting to the park before it opened to get to popular rides before it got too crowded.

Alex made a new friend at Rafiki’s Planet Watch in Animal Kingdom.

We talked (mostly about our kids and how cute they are) and laughed and it was just good to be together at a place we loved before we were “mommy and daddy”. I think it’s easy to lose your identity when you become a parent. You constantly put someone’s else’s needs above your own and you forget to take care of yourself sometimes. This trip was a perfect reminder that we can still have fun and be the best mommy and daddy to our babies. Our kids were well looked after by family and we were so thankful for that! I didn’t really feel guilty for going without them since we take our kids to Disney World pretty regularly. I should add that my dear husband did feel guilty so we ended up taking them for a weekend like two weeks before our trip ( and it was one of the best trips we have had with them so far). We definitely want to take more parent trips in the future, but also go with our sweet Mickey lovin’ babies.

We watched Happily Ever After twice. So magical each time.

Well I hope you have enjoyed today…for me, this post makes me want to plan another “parent trip” soon…maybe MiMi will be up for babysitting again for a week 😉 I also hope you can see from this post that adults can definitely have fun at Disney World sans kids. If that is you and you would like to plan a trip, call me! I would love to help you plan an adult only vacation at the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Waiting for a bus at our resort to start our first full day!

Disney Dining Plan. What is it and Do We Use It?

Hey, y’all! Glad you are here today. I wanted to talk to y’all today about something I get asked often when it comes to planning Disney World vacations…food! More specifically, we are going to talk about different dining plans Disney offers, which ones my family chooses (and why) and do I think they are worth it? (spoiler alert, I definitely do!) There are three dining plans that Disney World currently offers and we are going to talk about each one below.

Disney Quick Service Dining Plan

The first plan up on our menu (see what I did there?) for us to talk about is the Quick Service Plan (QS for short). This plan includes 2 quick service meals per person per night of their stay, 2 snacks (or non-alcoholic beverages) per person per night of their stay, and a resort refillable mug per person. If you’ve never been to WDW, then what I said probably doesn’t make a lot of sense, so let’s break that down a little bit. A quick service location is sort of like fast food, but Disney style. No reservations are required (except for one, but that will be talked about later) for quick service locations, and there are so many locations to choose from throughout the parks and resorts. These meals would be considered “casual” and are usually ordered at a counter and then you carry your food to your table. QS meals include an entrée and a beverage (alcoholic available if you are 21 or older) and most of the time are $15 or less per person. You might feel that this is not a good amount of food if you are like me and you like to eat, but Disney’s portions are not like typical portions…they’re much bigger! Most of the time, there are sides that come with the entrée so please don’t feel you are cheated if you are on the dining plan. The next thing that is included in the dining plan is the snack credit. I recently put up a post about our top 5 snack credits if you want to have a look at that to see what our favorite treats are. At most QS locations and food carts, there are many options for you to use as a snack credit. While you can definitely use a snack credit on anything that is marked as a snack credit (there will be a small purple Dining plan symbol to inform you of snack credit availability), there are ways to make the most out of your credits. What I mean by that is, it might not be the best use of a snack credit to purchase a bottle Coke($4.50 each) while in the parks when you could get a Pineapple Upside Down Cake (featuring my fav Dole Whip) from Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom for $6.99. I always try to make sure I am getting my money’s worth out of my dining plan, even with our snacks. Don’t get too worked up on making sure you find the most expensive option because what really matters is you are having fun and making memories. If there is something you want, then go for it. My daughter once had a major meltdown because she wanted “yellow chips” AKA plain potato chips and we broke down and used a snack credit on a (small) bag of chips…made her happy so therefore it was worth it.

A classic Disney snack that is on the dining plan as a snack credit …you can never go wrong with a Mickey Pretzel!
Lemon Blueberry Lunch Box Tart at Woody’s Lunchbox in Hollywood Studios. They have seasonal ones throughout the year. This is a great snack credit option for breakfast…or really anytime 🙂

Each person on this plan also received a resort refillable mug to use on free refills at any of the QS locations at any of the resorts on property. So if you are staying at Disney’s Pop Century resort, but you want to have lunch at the neighboring Art of Animation resort, you can bring your mug and get your non alcoholic beverage without paying extra! We love having breakfast and sometimes lunch back at our resorts and love taking advantage of the refill stations. If you ask my husband, he will tell you the best Coke in the world is at Disney World in those refill stations. The QS plan may be a good fit for you and your family if you want to park hop till you drop and not take long breaks for sit down meals. It is also great if you have small children who may be a little too squirmy to sit for long periods of time. Finally, if you don’t want to have to plan your day around dining reservations and be spontaneous, the QS plan would be great for you and your family. We have done the QS plan when we first took both kids to Disney World and it worked out great! Like I said, there are so many great options with so many different cuisines on the QS dining plan.

Here are two of our latest Resort Refillable Mugs from our summer 2019 trips…I have somewhat of a collection 😬

Disney Dining Plan

The next plan available (and what seems to be the most popular) is the Disney Dining Plan. The only difference between this plan and the QS plan is there is 1 QS meal per person per night and 1 table service meal per person per night. Table service meals include family style buffets and even character meals. There are also plenty of made to order sit down restaurants options as well. From seafood to homestyle cooking, there really is something for everyone. This plan is great for families who want to sit back, relax and enjoy some delicious food together. There are so many options for table service meals in many different locations including the parks, resorts and Disney Springs. Breakfast table service meals include an entrée and beverage (can be alcoholic if over 21). Table service meals serving lunch or dinner include an entrée, dessert and beverage (can be alcoholic if over 21).

Our view at 50’s Prime Time Café in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Such a fun atmosphere.

I think character meals are one of the best ways to make the most of Disney Dining Plan credits. These meals are typically more expensive paid for out of pocket so they are definitely worth the table service credit. Character dining is also a great way for your little ones to meet their favorite characters without standing in line or using a FastPass to meet them in the parks. This makes character dining a win-win for our family! Most character meals are buffets and the characters will come around to your table to visit with you and your littles. They will take photos and sign your autograph books if you have one. When it was just my husband and I, we always did this plan and loved it! We found when we first took our (small) kids that it was easier to do the QS service, but we are going to try the Disney Dining plan for our next trip now that they are a little older. I chose to make mostly character breakfasts or lunches because my kids do better earlier in the day and they absolutely love to see the characters…we will see how that goes 😉

My baby girl got to meet 4 princesses at one dinner! Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot. December 2015
Often you can meet characters in a dining experience that you rarely get to meet in the parks. This was from our parent trip in summer of 2019. Storybook Dining at the Wilderness Lodge Resort.
I love this photo so much! it was our little boy’s first character meal at Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom and he loved Pooh Bear so much that he wanted to give him a kiss. Be still my heart. Summer 2019.

Deluxe Dining Plan

The name sort of gives this one away, but this one is for those who have some REALLY big appetites and want to make the most of their trip with some really yummy food! This plan includes 3 meals per person per night of their stay in addition to the 2 snacks per person per night. This plan gives you the freedom to eat however you want, quick service or table service meals. So one day you could eat at 3 different table service locations and the next day, eat only quick service. If you are dining at a table service location at lunch or dinner, your meal will also include an appetizer which is not on the other plans. This plan is the most expensive, but you really can eat almost anything you want. We have never done this plan, but it is definitely on my list to do…I feel like it will be a trip dedicated to eating all the food, but I am definitely up for that challenge! 🙂

y’all. I dream about this food from
O’hana at the Polynesian Resort. It has become a must do for us each trip. Seriously. So good!

Tips

I have a few tips about the Disney Dining Plan that I would love to share with you. The most important one is to make reservations ahead of time! Table service locations are very popular within the Disney World Resort and there will sure to be long waits if you don’t have reservations. If you are staying at a Disney resort, you can make advance dining reservations up to 180 days out from your arrival date and you should definitely be up at 7:00 am EST to book the super popular restaurants like Cinderella’s Royal Table which is in the Castle in Magic Kingdom or O’hana Dinner at the Polynesian Resort (or I could do it for you if you use me as your travel agent..wink, wink).

Another important thing to note is that some restaurants require 2 table service credits per person. These restaurants are considered fine or signature dining and include:

  • Be Our Guest, dinner only (Magic Kingdom)
  • Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom)
  • Le Cellier Steakhouse (Epcot)
  • Monsieur Paul (Epcot)
  • The Hollywood Brown Derby (Hollywood Studios)
  • Tiffins (Animal Kingdom)
  • The BOATHOUSE Restaurant (Disney Springs)
  • Morimoto Asia (Disney Springs)
  • Jaleo by Jose Andres (Disney Springs)
  • Paddlefish (Disney Springs)
  • STK (Disney Springs)
  • California Grill (Contemporary Resort)
  • Citricos (Grand Floridian Resort)
  • Flying Fish (Boardwalk Inn)
  • Jiko- The Cooking Place (Animal Kingdom Lodge)
  • Narcoossee’s (Grand Floridian Resort)
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club Resort)

Be Our Guest is actually a QS for breakfast/lunch and is one of the best ways to use your QS credits as it cost more than the typical counter service meals. This is one QS meals that is recommended that you have dining reservations for because it is extremely popular. We prefer lunch over breakfast here, but what I really love is dining in this absolutely beautiful castle that makes you feel like you are in the movie!

Inside of Be Our Guest Restaurant…so magical!

Mobile ordering a newer feature on the My Disney Experience app that allows you to order your food at certain QS locations prior to your arrival. You “check in” once you arrive at your location and the food will be ready in no time! This really cuts down on waiting in lines and I am ALL for cutting down my waiting time and speeding up my eating time! One of my favorite things to mobile order are my #1 dole whip float…seriously, the line at Aloha Isle can be a little nuts sometimes so this really is the way to go!

One last tip about dining plans is that sometimes Disney offers promotions where you can get free dining when you book a package. This is a great way to save some cash! If you have a really great travel agent, she can alert you to these special promotions and help you take advantage of these offers when they are announced..also, she is me…just in case you were wondering. 🙂 Anyway, I hope this helps you understand a little better how the different Dining Plans work and may answer some questions you may have. I would love to hear from you on what are some of your favorite places to eat at and why! Until next time…

See ya real soon,

Kelly

What Our Kids Enjoy at Disney World

Hey, y’all! I am so glad you are here today! Today I want to share with you some of the things our (small) children like to do while at the Most Magical Place on Earth. I know some of you have never been to Disney World before and if you are wondering what there is to do for your little ones, I will share some of the things we have found that our littles really enjoy!

The Rides

Okay, so I get this is an obvious one, but I thought I would share some of our favorite family rides that anyone in your traveling party can enjoy. These are also our almost 5 year old daughter’s favorite rides (I asked her to give me her favorite rides at WDW and these are the ones she came up with).

5. Prince Charming Regal Carousel: Magic Kingdom is definitely home to many of our favorite attractions and this one is a classic! There is just something about riding behind Cinderella’s Castle right in the middle of Fantasyland with the music playing that makes this a must do for us when we are at Disney World as a family. There is no height requirement so anyone can ride. My daughter loves to run and pick out her “favorite” horse each time she rides. Her “favorite” changes each time, but it makes her happy! One tip for this ride, there are no fast passes for the carousel so you will have to wait in line, but typically the lines move pretty quickly if it is not a peak time of day.

One of the many times we rode the Carousel that trip because it was one of the only rides she wasn’t scared of…🤷🏻‍♀️ November 2018

4. Peter Pan’s Flight: Definitely another classic Magic Kingdom attraction that our whole family loves! This ride takes you through the story of Peter Pan while some pixie dust sets you soaring above the scene. I love that we see something new each time we ride. It is also one of those nice, cool, dark rides that make it great for a break from the heat if you are traveling to Florida in the warmer months. There are no height requirements for this one so it is a great family attraction. There is FastPass available for this one and I highly recommend getting one if you want to ride because wait times are almost always high for this one!

3. Frozen Ever After: This is a must do for any Frozen fans! Located in the World Showcase of Epcot, this ride brings the movie to life as you ride through Arendelle. There is a small backwards drop so keep that in mind for your little world travelers, but this one is a lot of fun! I will say that it has taken our daughter a few years to really enjoy this ride without being afraid of the drop, but she included it in her list so there ya go! Elsa and Anna are pretty popular so I highly recommend getting a FastPass for this attraction if you don’t want to wait in line. There is no height requirement for this one, but as I mentioned earlier, you know what your little one’s limit is as far as being okay with the drops.

Okay so I couldn’t find a picture with the kids…but this is obviously an adult favorite too lol. We didn’t forget our kids…this was a “parent trip” July 2019.

2. Alien Swirling Saucers: This one is definitely one of our daughter’s favorite rides at Disney World…I enjoy it as well, but I probably wouldn’t have ranked it in the second spot.. You can find this super fun attraction in Toy Story Land located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It is a spinning ride that plays fun Toy Story themed songs. Guests must be 32 inches or taller to ride this one. This is the only attraction in our list that has a height requirement. My son was able to ride it this summer when we went (he was 1.5 years old at the time) so I feel that it is still pretty family friendly. FastPass is available on this one and if you aren’t interested in riding Slinky Dog Dash or you have a huge little green aliens fan, then I would definitely recommend checking this one out.

1. it’s a small world: Well here we are..this is seriously the favorite ride for both of my kids. It is another one of those classic rides that takes you back in time if you know any history of how Walt Disney wanted to entertain his guests in his theme park. The song will definitely get stuck in your head and you will find yourself humming it as you go on about your day. I have to tell you a little story about this ride and even though it may not be my number one, it is so important to our little family. In September of 2018, our small Eastern NC town was devastated by a hurricane named Florence. People all around us lost their homes and businesses. We were very blessed and did not sustain any damage, but we were without power for almost 6 days. My daughter who was 3 at the time, became really afraid of the dark after that. She was scared the “hurricane was going to come back and get her.” It was awful. The daycare we sent our babies to sustained a lot of damage and decided not to reopen. We had to put them in a different daycare and it was a huge adjustment for all of us. If you have small children, you know they thrive off of a steady routine and ours was thrown upside down for a while. Fast forward about 2 months, and we were going to our happy place, Walt Disney World. I just knew it would help our daughter forget all her fears and just be happy for a week…oh man was I in for a surprise! Any ride we rode that was the least bit dark, she would lose it! She was literally terrified. I will admit that I was so disappointed on that trip. I had super high expectations since she was a little older and remembered stuff and recognized characters. I felt like I had failed her as a mom for not realizing she was still dealing with this hurricane stuff and I wasn’t helping her, but making it worse. That is NOT how you want to feel at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Back to how small world fits in this story….So after riding/screaming on many rides, we used our FastPass for it’s a small world. She loved it! She started smiling (this was a huge deal) and even singing along. She kept saying, “this ride isn’t dark or scary, mommy!”. We ended up riding small world a total of 5 times that trip, but it was worth hearing the song in my dreams to see her little face light up. Our son also really loves it. He sings along to the words during bath time…don’t judge me for listening to Disney music in the bath tub, we are just those people! There is FastPass available for this ride, but if you get to Magic Kingdom pretty early in the morning, you shouldn’t have to wait too long. If you have a small world super fan like we do, best to make a FastPass just to be sure.

Okay so I am throwing in an honorable mention here because it is an absolute classic and we all love it, but she just couldn’t put it in her top 5, but it’s definitely in mine…Dumbo! We usually ride it at least twice on every trip and it’s so much fun to ride above Fanstasyland and catch the views of the Castle as you soar by. Ahhh. Here’s a tip for you on this one…there is FastPass available, but there is a really fun inside queue where kids can play, jump and climb and may not even want to ride when it’s time..so fun! One more pro tip, if there is a super long ride and your little one doesn’t want to play/wait, check out the Magic Carpets of Aladdin…it’s the same ride and may have a shorter wait. It definitely has my favorite snack nearby, the Dole Whip Float. If you are in Animal Kingdom, the TriceraTop Spin is also the exact same ride and doesn’t usually have a long line!

The Playgrounds

Yes, you read correctly. We spend a good amount of money to visit Disney World and our kids absolutely love going to the playgrounds on property. That is one of those battles I have had to learn to just not fight. The parks can be overwhelming for our kids and playgrounds feel “safe” and smaller to them. There is usually one at every resort and our kids always seem to find it almost immediately. We sometimes spend our breaks from the parks playing on the little playground at our resort.

If you are traveling to Walt Disney World during the spring when Flower and Garden Festival is going on at Epcot, they sometimes have a little playground set up for kids to run around and get out some energy. We didn’t realize that was there until we were leaving one day, but it looked like a lot of fun!

One area our kids really, really enjoy is the Boneyard at Animal Kingdom. This play area is located in Dino Land and has lots of space for the littles to run around and go down some fun slides. There is also a place in the back of the Boneyard called the Dig Site where kids can dig in a huge sand pit for fossils. I am pretty sure we stayed in there for almost 2 hours one time. Again, it may not be what you envision for your day, but it is also your kid’s vacation too so its important to keep that in mind. I took the opportunity to rest my legs, eat a snack and watch them have a blast. One tip mom to mom though, take off their shoes in the dig site…or else you will be dumping sand out for the rest of the day.

There is a little splash area called Casey Jr Splash ‘N’ Soak in Fanstasyland inside of Magic Kingdom that our daughter loves to play in. Our little boy wasn’t big on getting wet so he watched from a distance in the stroller. This was a perfect way to beat the June heat on our last trip this summer. You could bring some extra clothes in your bag, but honestly clothes tend to dry out so quick from the heat that it’s not necessary.

Swimming

In another post about how we do Disney World with our little ones, I mentioned that sometimes during our breaks from the parks, we check out the resort pools. We have been swimming at Disney World in November and December so if you aren’t traveling in the typical warmer months and worried you can’t get in the pool…I wouldn’t worry too much. There is usually a little kiddie pool/splash pad at the resorts along with at least one full size pool. Some resorts have more than one pool located in different sections of the hotel.

Resorts

Speaking of resorts, one thing I needed to mention is that my daughter is obsessed with our resort’s elevators…not even kidding. When she was 2 and we stayed at Pop Century, all she would talk about was the purple elevator at the hotel…it was seriously the highlight of her trip. One of the first questions she asks to this day when she finds out we are going to Disney World is, “what color is the elevator at the hotel, mommy?”. It really is the little things, y’all. Another fun thing our kids like to do is ride in the stroller/walk around and look at the theming of the resorts. The value hotels have larger than life character statues and our littles love to visit and have their picture taken with them. Some of our favorites are Woody and Buzz at All Star Movies and Lady from Lady and the Tramp and Mr. Potato Head at Pop Century. We stayed at All Star Movies this summer and every time we left our room to head to the buses, our son would just light up and squeal, “Buzzzzzz!”. It was the sweetest thing to me.

Well folks, there ya have it. Here are most of the things our kids enjoy doing while we are at Walt Disney World. I am hoping we can continue to add to this list as they get older and are willing to branch out and try new things. You may have noticed I did not add any of the shows, parades or fireworks…we have not been successful at those in the past, but we hope we can warm up to some of those soon. Every kid is different and we have learned which battles are worth fighting and when it’s time to just go ride the purple elevator..seriously, she was that obsessed. I hope you guys have enjoyed following along and if you are thinking of taking your tiny tot to Disney World and have no clue where to start, I would love to help you plan your magical vacation!

See ya real soon,

Kelly

Our Top 5 Snack Credits at Disney World

Okay so far we’ve covered how we do Disney World with our little ones and what is in our park bag. We still have so much to discuss and I’m excited about today’s subject…food. 😋 One of the many things Disney knows how to do is yummy, delicious food. Eating and trying new foods is one thing I always look forward to on our upcoming trips! I could seriously talk Disney food all day…don’t judge me, I like to eat. There are also so many options when it comes to food at Disney that it can seem a little overwhelming at first. I’m going to break these up into different posts and today’s is going to focus on our top 5 snacks at WDW. Let’s eat…ehhh I mean, let’s get started.

Chocolate Soft Serve Ice Cream In a Waffle Cone from Animal Kingdom

Number 5: Soft Serve Ice Cream in a Waffle Cone

I totally know you can get soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone anywhere, but there’s just something about these sweet treats that I so look forward to each trip. It started in 2012 on my first “adult” trip to Disney World. I went with a friend/co worker to a nursing conference that was being held there and when we weren’t learning, we were hitting up the parks! That is where my love/obsession with all things Disney really began. My friend suggested getting one of these sweet treats as a dessert one afternoon while we were in Animal Kingdom. I got chocolate, of course. I don’t know if it’s because of the location (the Most Magical Place on Earth) or if it is really good ice cream, but it became one of those things that I just have to have every single time we visit. There are a few locations to get these cones in the parks, but my favorite spot is a little food cart called, “Anandapur Ice Cream Truck” in Animal Kingdom. These delicious treats are $4.99 plus tax.

Number 4: Night Blossom

Another crowd favorite from my little family is this refreshingly sweet frozen drink. It has flavors of apple, pear and lime and it mixes together so well. There are also these fun little boba balls on top. I think it would actually be a little higher on this list if my husband had anything to do with it. When we were visiting Pandora in Animal Kingdom this summer, this was the perfect little pick me up during the middle of the day to help cool us off. Not only is it really tasty, it’s really pretty to look at as well. I did find this to be super sweet so sharing might be a good option if you don’t have a big sweet tooth. The one we tried was non-alcoholic and priced at $5.99 plus tax, but there is an alcoholic version available.

Number 3: Warm Cinnamon Roll

When you are on vacation, calories don’t count…right? You definitely don’t need to count the calories in this one. It is a huge cinnamon roll that is served warm and covered in sticky sweet icing. My first one of these was when I was pregnant with our son and I was supposed to be sharing it with my husband and little girl…I think we ended up buying another one…oops. This warm cinnamon roll is located at Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom. We like to get one to share (except for that one time) and have it for breakfast while we drink coffee and people watch in the morning. This cinnamon roll is $5.99 plus tax. This is a great way to use a snack credit if you are on the dining plan (don’t worry, I will explain more later about this).

Number 2: Mickey Beignets

This was really hard to put as a number 2…but for the sake of a list that doesn’t have two number 1’s, here it is. We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter this summer and I fell in love with everything about this resort! I loved the laid back atmosphere, the New Orleans style and the yummy food! One of my all time Disney snacks are these beignets that are Mickey shaped covered in powdered sugar. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. It’s kind of hard to explain a beignet if you’ve never tried one ,but it is sort of like a doughnut, but lighter. It’s best to eat them while they are still warm to get the full “melt in your mouth experience”. Seriously, I would drive 600 miles for one of those right about now. For $4.49 plus tax you can get 3 beignets or 1 snack credit if you are on the dining plan. You can also get 6 beignets for $6.99 plus tax. These could also be shared if you are just wanting a snack. I couldn’t ever eat all 3 at once. There are dipping sauces available for an extra charge, but honestly they are delicious the way they come.

Number 1: Pineapple Dole Whip Float

We have arrived at my absolute must have/favorite treat on every single trip…the infamous Dole Whip Float. I usually don’t have just one while we are there..it’s more like one a day and I am not even sorry about it. This was another one of those things that I tried back in 2012 and was hooked! It is Dole pineapple juice served with Dole pineapple soft serve ice cream. There are other options for the soft serve ( Vanilla Dole Whip or Swirl Dole whip), but to be completely honest I only have eyes for the pineapple/pineapple combo. We usually get our dole whip floats at Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom, but there are now more locations serving this delightful treat with one being the Polynesian Resort. We like to mobile order our floats to avoid the crazy long lines (they really are this popular!) and then go sit down near the Magic Carpets of Aladdin and people watch/take a break (I promise we aren’t weird and only stare at people while on vacation). These are a perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day…or really anytime while you are in Magic Kingdom. I have yet to find a bad time for a dole whip float. They are $5.99 plus tax and worth every single penny. Have I mentioned how much I love these things?

Iconic Pineapple Dole Whip Float from Aloha Isle, Magic Kingdom

That wraps up our top 5 snack credits at Walt Disney World. This list could definitely change as we try new snacks, but these will definitely be favorites either for sentimental reasons or we just are creatures of habit and must try them every time we visit. I would love to know if any of these are your family favorites too or if there are other snacks that make your top 5! I did want to mention that all of these items listed are one snack credit if you are on the dining plan. I will do another post on the dining plan soon, but I always try to find options that will be a good use of our credits and I have found that all 5 of the snacks we talked about today are definitely snack credit worthy!

Thanks again for following along with me and if you need help planning your next vacation to the Most Magical Place on Earth and trying to decide where to find the best snacks, I am your girl!

What’s in Our Park Bag?

First of all I just want to say thank you to everyone who read my previous post about how we do Disney with our sweet little ones. All your encouragement and kind words really mean a lot to me! So thank you again..now let’s talk park bags and all the things inside them!

Ok so to start with, do I think having a park bag is a must? …uh, yeah it kind of is. Even before our trips as parents, we still carried a small backpack with a few essentials. Now with little ones in tow, it is a necessity to have a bag that is full of well, necessitates. You can of course go completely bagless to avoid going through bag check/security, but really that would defeat the purpose of my post and I feel that you will eventually need something and you would really wish you had a park bag handy for that item, just sayin’. Now that we have established how important park bags are, lets talk about our bag and all the stuff inside of it.

We have used several different kinds of bags over the years. Pre kids, we used a little cinch bag and a mini backpack. We now have a full-sized Mickey Mouse backpack that we have been using for several years now. We actually bought it in one of the shops while on vacation one year. My recommendation for your bag would be something not too heavy because you will (most likely) be filling it up with lots of stuff (promise I’m going to share what this stuff is really soon) and that will add weight and you don’t want something so heavy to carry around while touring the Kingdoms. I will say the small cinch bags aren’t the most comfortable with those little drawstring straps, but find whatever works for you! I do think finding a fun Disney themed one is cute and adds to the experience, but totally not necessary (unless you are like me and keep your designated Mickey Mouse park bag packed at all times in case your hubby gets a wild hair and says, “Lets go to Disney World!”…a girl can dream, right?!)

Our beloved park bag. Can’t wait to use her again 😊

Now that we have established what kind of bag we use, lets FINALLY start talking about what’s inside. Some of what I am about to tell you is pretty common sense, but I will tell you anyway. We always have spray sunscreen, hand sanitizer, water bottles and a travel pack of lysol wipes (to wipe toilet seats or anything else gross my kids will probably touch). We also keep a travel tooth brush holder that is full of drinking straws (top tip here…Disney has pretty much done away with straws and if you do get them, they’re paper and have you tried drinking a dole whip float with a paper straw lately?). Snacks are also pretty essential to our park bag and these will look different for every family, but some travel friendly snacks we usually pack are applesauce pouches, fruit snacks, veggie straws, and some goldfish.

So those are the basics of what is always in our bag ( I do not keep the snacks in my bag while being stored for the next trip, but if you look really hard you might spot a random straw or goldfish that got left behind..#momlife). Next up are some of the things I have added to our bag over the years with some trial/error and we will have these items packed, but not necessarily used every time we go to the parks.

So in case nobody has told you, it rains a lot in Florida (especially during the summer months). We always pack ponchos for everyone in the family (I usually pick up pretty cheap ones that are disposable, but if you want a nice souvenir, you can always buy one in the parks with the Disney World logo on it). Now here is how ponchos work, if you leave them in your hotel because theres a 0% chance of rain in the forecast and you want to lighten your load a bit…it will pour EVERY time. Another pro tip, if you plan on riding any water rides (Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids) and don’t want to be soaked, throw that poncho on..you’re welcome! Something we tried this summer and actually didn’t hate was packing light weight rain jackets instead of ponchos. It rained one afternoon while we were in Epcot and even though it was the middle of summer, the rain was really cool and it was windy so it was nice to have an actual jacket instead of a poncho. We stored ours in the bottom of the stroller so we didn’t have to carry them in our bag.

I did not follow my own advice….I got soaked in this one. Splash Mountain. Summer 2019.

Another item that we’ve added to our bag over the last few years is a portable charger. We are on our phones a lot while at Disney World. Either snapping pics of that beautiful castle or trying to snag a fast pass for Flight of Passage, we are draining that iPhone battery. I found the charger we use on Amazon (I’ll leave the link for it at the end) and it was incredibly useful this summer to charge our portable stroller fans! I usually leave this one in the bag because you just never know when you’ll need it. I take it out at night and re charge it so it will be ready for the next day! You can purchase fuel rods in the parks and then exchange them when its empty. At this moment, it is free to exchange. There has been some drama surrounding that topic the last few weeks with Disney charging a exchange fee so this may not be the case in the future, but it is free for now.

If we are planning on being out in the parks when it’s dark, we usually bring the headphones for the kids (for fireworks) and glow light sticks from the Dollar Tree. This is another one of those pro tips..if you are in the parks when it becomes dark out, you will see Cast Members pushing those carts around that are lit up like the 4th of July and your little ones will definitely notice them too. They will then start asking for one of those glow in the dark/light up things…usually having the glow sticks helps distract/appease our little ones. I always pack extra to share with another Mouseketeer who seems to be having a rough time because we all need a little Disney magic sometime to cheer us up.

One last thing I want to tell you about that is always in our park bag are autograph books. Our kids go in phases of loving/being terrified of the characters, but we always keep these in the bags when we are in the parks in case we meet a new character or have a character dining experience. This is one item we usually buy at Disney to have as a souvenir, but you can often find little Disney themed books at Dollar tree that would work just as well and save a few bucks. I have also seen pillow cases, character books with pictures of all the characters, and even a white backpack that was used for autographs. You can get creative with this, but it is such a sweet memory to have. One tip for this one, buy a wider pen/sharpie for some of our character friends who may have a harder time gripping a smaller pen. We have used a click sharpie for years, but I have also bought a Mickey click pen in the parks that we use now.

Goofy signing autograph book. Disney Visa Character Spot. Epcot. Summer 2019

So earlier I mentioned about going through bag check/security so I wanted to share a few tips on that as well. You cannot get out of getting your bag checked, but if someone in your party does not have a bag, they can go on through security (this is really handy when you have little ones who will surely be impatient while waiting). Go ahead and have your bag ready to be searched by opening up all compartments. This will help the process move a lot quicker. This goes without saying, there are no weapons allowed at Disney.

One question I get asked a lot about taking the bags in the parks is where we put our bag when we go on attractions or shows? Disney allows you to take your bag with you on all rides so we take ours with us. There is usually some space at your feet for your bag or somewhere to place it underneath. This is nice because you don’t have to rent a locker and have to keep going back and forth all day when you need something.

I think that about covers the essentials of what is in our park bag. I mean we still have diapers, wipes and paci’s in there too…what a wonderful day that will be when those can be left out, but I am not going to rush my last baby growing up. I hope this helps someone get a jump start on packing and if you need help planning your trip so you can have a well packed park bag, I’m your girl!

How We Do Disney World with Small Children

Epcot Summer 2019

Planning a trip to the most magical place on Earth can seem like a daunting task, but planning a trip to the most magical place on Earth with small children..it can seem impossible. Never fear, we have done this very thing many times and have learned a few valuable lessons along with way that I want to share with you! Let’s get started.

As with any trip to the Walt Disney World resort, the first (and somewhat obvious) tip I have is to make a plan. Pick the time of year you would like to visit, how long you would like to stay, and where you would like to stay. Although these are a given with any trip, it is important to keep your littles in mind when making these decisions. It’s no secret that Florida in the summer is hot (this is a major understatement) so if you or your small children can’t hang in this heat, pick another time of year. We have been with our kids right smack dab in the middle of summer and it definitely took more planning to keep everyone as cool as possible. I will do a whole post about doing Disney World in the summer soon! Another important question to ask when starting to plan your dream vacation is to decide how long you want to stay. We have done anywhere from 3-7 nights on our trips with the kids. Every kid is different and only you know what your littles/budget can realistically handle. My kids are extremely routine oriented so the first few times we traveled with them, it was a trial and error thing to learn their limits. Picking your hotel is another important factor in planning a trip with your tiny travelers. One important lesson we have learned since traveling to WDW with babies/toddlers/preschoolers is taking that mid day break from the parks. We usually spend this “down time” back at our resort either in the pool or hang out in our room. This is a must for our family. Sensory overload is such a real thing and it can cause meltdowns and make for a not so fun day for everyone. Being able to escape back to your resort definitely helps “reset” us to gear back up for more evening fun. I also recommend if you time allows to have a resort day if you are staying on WDW property without going to the parks to really reset and to enjoy all the amenities that your resort has to offer.

This is usually what our mid day breaks look like. All Star Movies Resort. Summer 2019

Notice I did not say, “we go back to the resort for a mid day nap.” Another lesson we have learned over the years is not to have the highest expectations of keeping your daily routine while on vacation. On our November of 2018 trip, we attempted a nap time during the first few days of the trip. We came back to our hotel around our normal nap time and tried to put our kids down…they literally laughed in our faces for like 2 hours. It just wasn’t going to happen. We gave up and let them watch TV for a little while before we headed back out. They immediately fell asleep in the stroller as soon as we got to Animal Kingdom. We took that time to stroll around, grab a snack and relax ourselves for a few minutes. Maybe your kids will go back to your hotel and take a 2 hour nap, but don’t sweat it if they don’t.

Stroller nap in Disney’s Animal Kingdom November 2018

Speaking of strollers, I have some tips on that for you as well. First tip is, always use a stroller if you have small children. I am not even kidding. If you are on the fence of your kid may could ride in a stroller, just do it. I mean I have often found myself jealous of my kids being able to ride through the magic on those days we walk 10+ miles in a day. It is not that much of a hassle to fold/unfold the stroller vs the alternative of whiny kids with tired feet who want to be held. They may also take those wonderful stroller naps! I spent months researching on the perfect light-weight stroller that would recline before we took our daughter the first time when she was 11 months old. We went with the Graco Breaze and it was perfect! It was easy to fold up when getting on the buses and light enough to carry one handed (I will leave a link at the end of the post for you to check out). When we found out we were expecting our son, I started researching the best double strollers. I won’t lie, I actually googled, “the best double strollers to use at Disney World”. I stumbled across a brand called “Zoe Strollers” that was actually created by parents who visited Disney often and had multiple children. I did some more comparing and it seemed this brand was perfect for us. We purchased one and have not regretted it at all! It is super light-weight, easy to carry and the kids absolutely love riding in it (Ill leave this link at the end too). You can also rent strollers at WDW for a fee, but these do not look comfortable to us. There are also local companies who rent strollers if you are flying and don’t want to travel with one. Many people choose this option and they have some well known brands available for your little ones to ride around the Kingdom in. Disney World has cracked down on stroller sizes/types so just look up the restrictions before you go. A few other tips on strollers..cast members will move around your stroller when you park it in stroller parking so don’t immediately freak out and think your stroller has been stolen (guilty of this..more than once). Put some kind of noticeable marking on your stroller to help it stand out in the sea of strollers. We typically use a very bright, pink ribbon that is tied to the handles. Last tip, don’t leave anything valuable in your stroller. As much as I love Disney, this is still the real world and it’s just not smart in this day and age…but enough about that, this is a happy place.

Ain’t no tired like Disney tired. December 2015. Magic Kingdom

The next important tip I have for traveling with small kids is to feed them. Again, I know this seems obvious, but I ALWAYS keep snacks in our park bag and will just pass them out in intervals throughout the day. Full kids are happy kids. We also allow them to pick out special treats if they behave well ( I am not really above bribery either, but that is a whole different topic). There are plenty of snacks/treats for your littles to choose from and let’s be honest, if they aren’t a little sticky by the end of the day, I am not sure you are doing it right (kidding, sort of). If your little ones love the characters, doing a character meal would be a great choice for them to eat and have entertainment at the same time. It also is practical because you won’t have to wait in a line or use a fast pass to meet a character if you are dining with them!

Next up on our list is doing attractions, shows and fireworks with little ones. As I mentioned earlier, you know your kids best so you decide how you will spend your days in the parks. On one of our trips, we rode “it’s a small world” FIVE times because it was one of the only rides our little girl wasn’t scared of. I heard that song in my dreams for a week. She was scared because we took her on Pirates of the Caribbean on our first day and it was dark and there was a slide and she was totally unprepared for that. She was three when that happened and still talks about it to this day. We learned from that experience to try new things toward the end of our trips in case one of our littles isn’t a fan so their experience won’t be ruined. I would also recommend you measure your kids before you go and look at the rides with height restrictions so nobody is sad if they aren’t tall enough to ride Slinky Dog! As far as shows go, I will have to let you know how that goes on our next trip because we have not been successful so far with our kids being still while waiting for shows to start (another one of those moments you have to be flexible and just go with the flow even if that flow means walking out of the Frozen show with a screaming toddler). I can tell you if your little ones will sit and enjoy a show, this is a great way to catch a little break, rest your feet and catch some air conditioning. As far as fireworks, that is about the same for us. Our kids hate loud sounds so we bought headphones with all intentions of watching fireworks…also did not work. To say we were disappointed was an understatement, but it’s hard to enjoy something when there is a screaming baby/toddler who is terrified. That is another experience we are going to try again on our next trip in hopes being older will help.

I can tell you that taking small children to Disney World is tiring, but oh so worth it! I get asked so much why we have taken our kids so much or why don’t we wait until they are older and will remember it. We take them because it is something that brings us all joy and happiness and we are doing it together as a family. We are making memories that will last a lifetime (corny, but true). As far as them not remembering it, my daughter may not remember her first trip as an 11 month old, but we do! Seeing her light up and smile at Mickey Mouse and kiss Pooh on the nose will forever be in my heart. Seeing our little boy dance and flirt with Anna and Elsa will always make us laugh! I will also add that our little girl who is almost 5 talks about things we did when we went and she was 2 years old so maybe they remember more than we give them credit for. I think my biggest piece of advice is to have a plan, but remember plans will not always go the way you expect and to enjoy the moment with your little ones. Okay last piece of advice, call me today and let me help you plan your trip!

My name is Kelly and I love Disney World.

Cinderella’s Castle. My favorite view. 💙

Hey, yall. My name is Kelly and I am glad you stumbled upon my corner of the world wide web! I hope you enjoy and come back sometime. I have never, ever done anything like this (blogging thing), but if you know me then you know I usually have a LOT to say about most anything. I especially love to talk shop and by shop I mean, Disney. I love all things Disney…from princesses to food, I can go on for hours about this topic. Over the years I have learned so much about Disney and the Walt Disney Travel Company from visiting Walt Disney World over the last several years. I want to share things I have learned and maybe help someone with planning their next magical trip. I am also a travel agent who specializes in planning Disney World vacations so I can really help you (free of charge). I can’t wait to share my tips, tricks and hard learned lessons when it comes to conquering the World (see what I did there?) Some of the things I want to write about soon are resorts we’ve stayed at, our favorite foods (that will be a long post…we like to eat!), how we do WDW with small children, and more! I really hope you will follow along.

See ya real soon!

Kelly
